Job Title:                WEConnect International Marketing and Communications Director

Main Purpose of the job:  The Marketing and Communications Director is a core member of the team and is responsible for maintaining the organization’s brand strategy and integrity, managing content production and distribution across all communication channels, supporting program and development staff with marketing and communications strategy and implementation, and managing marketing and communications resources while supporting the development and execution of key events to support the overall mission and goals of the organization.

Organization Information: WEConnect International, a corporate-led global non-profit, helps women business owners to succeed in local and global markets.  WEConnect International has since 2009 provided business education, certification, and business connections to businesses based outside the United States that are at least 51 percent owned, managed and controlled by one or more women.  WEConnect International corporate members represent over $1 trillion in annual purchasing power and are true pioneers in inclusive sourcing and global supplier development.

Job Overview:  WEConnect International has been growing steadily and is now seeking to dramatically accelerate growth. Therefore, the position requires that the individual is mission-focused, strategic, collaborative, a strong team player, looks for ways to strengthen the team environment and support colleagues, and is also creative, self-motivated, open to change, and process-minded. The position requires that the individual interact with different stakeholders including corporate members, international market leads, foundations, government officials, and women-owned businesses from around the world. The individual should be able to adjust to the different requirements and cultural conditions of the diverse operating environments. They must be a leader who is able to help others at WEConnect International deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the vision a reality. The Marketing and Communications Director will work closely with senior leadership to enhance brand awareness, marketing and communication efforts across the global team, including initiatives and events that support corporate members, member development, fundraising, social media, and website layout and design.

Core Preferred Competencies:  Proven track record and at least 5 years of experience in developing creative media campaigns, clear persuasive written communications for a global market, and managing web-based platforms and tools to monitor and increase stakeholder engagement such as SEO; and a proven track record in developing presentations and other communication materials, leading external media engagement, and developing content for speeches, interviews, blogs and other external engagements. Event management experience a plus.

Content Production

  • Manage email strategy and production; design template emails; work with staff to edit emails so they are compelling, effective, and brand-consistent
  • Cultivate and expand the brand reach of WEConnect International through social media channels via daily content production and distribution
  • Manage and maintain all aspects of the organization’s website, ensuring that all content is current, brand standards are consistent, and that the site functions smoothly and effectively
  • Work with WEConnect International leadership and stakeholders to produce and place op-eds and thought-leadership pieces
  • Produce regular newsletters
  • Produce the organization’s annual report
  • Work with development staff to produce fundraising appeals and campaigns
  • Brand Strategy and Stewardship
  • Review and edit all external content to ensure brand integrity and mission-driven language in all communications shared with the public
  • Advise and support staff in communications strategy for fundraising, educational, and events
  • Ensure new staff, Board members, and volunteers are trained in WEConnect International brand and voice and provide mentorship as needed to existing staff
  • Manage custom program and event branding, graphic design, and collateral production

Media Relations

  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories
  • Respond to telephone, voicemail, and email media requests within 24 hours and schedule media interviews for executive staff
  • Maintain media contact list and follow/engage as appropriate on social media

Other Duties

  • Prepare annual communications expense budget and manage approved communications spending to keep within budget
  • Oversee website contractor, designers, other contractors, and interns as appropriate
  • Track and report on communication metrics to evaluate the impact of various strategies, as appropriate
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process
  • Provide leadership and support in the development and execution of WEConnect International’s main events in the United State: Annual Gala, Symposium, and International Day
  • Act as the point person for WEConnect International’s global registration platform and support global market-events where necessary

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent English writing and editing skills, including speedy yet accurate turn-around and ability to translate complicated messages into compelling, understandable, and accessible language
  • Ability to speak and write in languages outside of English highly valued, but not required
  • Commitment and ability to fiercely protect the organization’s unique and strong brand
  • Experience with managing social media accounts, websites and CRMs
  • Resourceful and proactive; ability to be self-directed and produce results with a lean budget and minimal supervision
  • A team player who is a skilled communicator and able to work with many types of people and personalities and on a global scale
  • Ability to handle a very fast-paced work environment with grace and a good sense of humor
  • Strong and demonstrated commitment to Women’s Economic Empowerment and Diversity and Inclusion
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple competing duties and to balance thinking about the strategic big picture while also attending to the details of day-to-day work
  • Capable of writing in diverse media (fundraising appeals, blog, op-eds, etc.), to different audiences, in different countries, and on different subjects
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Attunement to daily and weekly news cycle and ability to craft communications that are relevant and timely, while also proactively asserting a branding strategy
  • Good judgment about what to problem solve on your own and when to get input/feedback from other staff
  • Ability to juggle competing feedback to create content that is coherent, targeted, and brand-consistent
  • Experience with producing visual graphics for use in social change campaigns
  • Proficiency in Wordpress, MS Office, and mass e-mail tools
  • Basic knowledge of design software
